Claude Duet Your AI Teammate

Claude Duet is Anthropic's always-on AI agent that messages you first. It briefs you every morning, checks your connected apps every few hours, and finishes approved work on its own cloud computer. This guide explains what it actually does, where it stops, and whether it is worth joining the waitlist.

Status: research preview, launched 21 October 2026. Not independently tested by Zeblio: Duet is waitlist-only for Pro and Max users in the US, and we are based in India. Every capability below comes from Anthropic's launch post and help-centre article, linked in Sources.

Why Claude Duet matters now

Most AI assistants wait for you to open them. Claude Duet reverses that. Instead of a chat box you visit, it is an agent that watches the accounts you connect and comes to you with what needs attention. Anthropic describes it as an app that "comes to you with what needs your attention."

That shift matters for founders and operators because the bottleneck in most teams is not answering questions. It is noticing what needs answering: the unpaid invoice, the calendar clash, the reply that has waited three days. An agent that does the noticing, and then drafts the fix for your approval, changes where your attention goes.

It also arrives in a crowded field. The press has compared Duet with OpenAI's Dots, Meta's Muse and xAI's Grok Bot, which xAI announced in August 2026 as an "AI teammate". Duet's distinguishing features are its own cloud computer, its large connector catalogue and a hard list of actions it will never take.

How Claude Duet works: the 3-part framework

The easiest way to understand Duet is as a loop of three steps: notice, act, and ask.

Step 1: Notice (the morning brief and check-ins)

Every morning Duet sends a brief of what needs your attention across your email, calendar and connected apps. During the day it checks your connected accounts every few hours. You decide how often it messages you and which topics it should raise. Some viral posts claim a fixed "every 3 hours, 9am to 10pm" schedule; Anthropic's documentation only says "every few hours", so treat any exact schedule as unverified.

Step 2: Act (its own cloud computer and 6,000+ connectors)

Duet runs on its own computer in the cloud, so work continues after you close the app or your phone is off. It plugs into more than 6,000 apps and plugins, including Gmail, Slack, QuickBooks, Stripe and Gusto. Anthropic's examples include drafting replies, chasing unpaid invoices, preparing payroll and building dashboards, docs and decks for you to review. It runs on Claude Opus 5.5 and you cannot pick a different model.

Step 3: Ask (approval before anything irreversible)

Duet waits for your yes before it sends, pays, signs or deletes anything. Purchases go through Stripe Link or Shop Pay using a one-time virtual card. Some actions stay blocked even if you approve them: trading securities, moving money between accounts, and accessing someone else's account. Duet never directly sees your passwords or sign-in tokens.

What Claude Duet can do: the 7 things that matter

  1. It comes to you first with a morning brief.
  2. It checks in every few hours, on a frequency and topics you set.
  3. It has its own cloud computer, so it keeps working when the app is closed.
  4. It finishes work: replies drafted, invoices chased, payroll prepared, documents ready to review.
  5. It connects to 6,000+ apps. Microsoft 365 is not supported yet.
  6. You stay in control: approval before sending, paying, signing or deleting; hard blocks on trading and moving money.
  7. It is not perfect yet: Anthropic says it can misread a thread or misjudge what is urgent.

Common pitfalls and limits

  • Availability. Duet is a waitlist research preview for Pro and Max subscribers in the US, admitted in waves. Team and Enterprise plans come later. It is not available in India yet.
  • Usage limits. Background check-ins count against your plan's 5-hour and weekly limits. Admitted users get one full limit reset, until 30 November 2026.
  • Prompt injection. Emails and web pages can contain hidden instructions meant to trick any agent. Anthropic acknowledges that no defence is perfect. Connect only the accounts Duet genuinely needs.
  • Accuracy. It can misread a thread, miscalibrate urgency, or miss something between check-ins. Keep reviewing what it surfaces.
  • No live browser view. You cannot watch its browser, and personal errands such as booking tickets are weaker than business workflows.
  • No calls or texts. Duet does not make phone calls or send SMS.

Proof: what is verified and what is not

We checked the viral claims about Duet against Anthropic's own pages. Verified: the morning brief, the cloud computer, 6,000+ connectors, QuickBooks and Stripe invoicing, Gusto payroll, one-time virtual cards, the approval rules and the blocked actions. Not verified: specific anecdotes such as "it read 33 emails and 89 Slack messages to learn my style", the fixed 3-hour schedule, and stories of it failing at Uber bookings.

An independent view helps balance the launch coverage. Claire Vo, writing in Lenny's Newsletter, called it "beautiful" but admitted she still forgot to use it, which is a useful reminder that a proactive agent only helps if its messages become part of your routine.

FAQ

What is Claude Duet?

Claude Duet is a proactive AI agent from Anthropic, available as an iOS and Android app and on claude.ai. It monitors connected accounts, briefs you, and completes approved tasks on its own cloud computer.

Is Claude Duet free?

No. It requires a paid Claude Pro or Max plan, and its background checks use your plan's usage limits.

Can I use Claude Duet in India?

Not yet. The research preview is limited to Pro and Max users in the US through a waitlist.

Can Claude Duet spend my money?

Only with your approval, through a one-time virtual card. Trading securities and moving money between accounts stay blocked even if you approve.

Is Claude Duet safe to connect to my email?

It never sees your passwords directly, but any agent that reads email can be targeted by prompt injection. Connect only what you need and review its actions.

Next steps

If you are in the US on a Pro or Max plan, join the waitlist and start by connecting one low-risk account, such as your calendar, before adding email or payments. If you are outside the US, use the waiting time to map which of your weekly tasks follow the notice, act, ask loop. Those are the tasks an agent like Duet will take over first.
